What makes Viking Rafting unique?
Andy first came to Viking Rafting as a guest to raft the East Glacial River, and she never left! She is our head chef; like anyone here, she is also multitalented and hardworking. Whenever she got a chance, she went on trips to hone her river skills with our river gurus, earning her river guide crown in no time. Since then, she has been guiding and cooking around the world every summer. If we could, we would award her a Michelin star for her culinary skills. You should not hesitate to dine with us, because we know you will love it until you lick your fingers.
Roshan, like most of us, spent most of his life in the water. His skills on the river are unquestionable, but you can also spot him high in the sky with his paraglide or riding some steep hills on his bike.
You might be lucky enough to taste his delicious cuisine after your rafting trip.
Tarjan was a team member of the first rafting team to represent Nepal in the World Rafting Championship in 2017 in Japan. We hope you enjoy your time with this impressive young man as much as we do.
This is the seventh season for Tarjan with Viking Rafting, and surely not the last!
This is Benji's fourth season at Viking Rafting. Since the very first moment he walked through our door last year, he brought smiles and a big sense of humor in the team. Every rafting company needs a "Benji": highly skilled, positive and hungry for action. In his free time, he loves to be outside gardening.
If you decide to spend a night at the Whitewater Bar, you will hear all about his kayaking missions around the globe!
Named after Ganesh, the God of Good Luck and the Dispeller of problems, "Hunter" will never stop smiling, even when he flips a raft and ends up underwater. If you don't want to be pushed off-board, make sure you smile with him! Hunter has collected hundreds of 5-stars reviews as one of our main trip leaders.
Mirto has been with us seven summers and seven winters, this is the reason you will never see him wearing gloves on the river. Not always easy to spot, he is most likely racing with his kayak and camera down the river, ready to capture your smiles. At the moment, he is spending the summer in the French Alps, but still visiting the family when possible.
This is Sara's 3rd season in Iceland, and first with Viking Rafting.
After a day in the office, welcoming everyone with a smile, you will find her spending her free time
on horseback in the Fjord.
If you want to chat about rafting, Icelandic horses, travelling and world culture, she is the right person to ask!
Ragnheiður (Ragga) is our person behind the scenes. She makes sure that the administrative machine is unclogged and adequately oiled, and if there are fires to be put out, you will find her holding the fire extinguisher. A published poet and writer, she is also our wordsmith when necessary. Ragga has been part of the Viking Rafting family since 2014 when she and Anup met at the Ganga Kayak Festival in India.
Bhalu is a beloved and charismatic member of the Viking rafting family! His dual role as an entertainer for guests and a smart, trick-savvy adds to his charm. He only shows off his skills when he's in the mood, showing a bit of personality and independence. His intense passion for rafting is quite a sight, especially since it stands out so much against his dislike for showers. Bhalu definitely has a unique and lovable personality, adding a lot of fun and excitement to the team!
When Chris joined forces with Anup to start Viking Rafting, he had the goal to create the best possible environment for both rafters and guides to thrive each and everyday. Chris is currently pursuing a medical career in British Columbia , and will be joining the team for as much time as he can spare.
You won’t find this owner glued to his office chair: expect to see Anup behind the lens of a camera capturing the daily action from his kayak, or barking commands from the back of the raft. His time spent exploring Iceland’s abundant whitewater makes him a valuable resource for the new guides looking to get the most out their time here.
We are one of very few in the world, that provides all of our guests with drysuits. Despite the significant costs of having and maintaining this equipment, we believe it is vital to the safety or comfort of our guests in a paddling climate such as ours. Our off-river time is almost entirely dedicated to regular maintenance and repair of our equipment, all of which is done on-site, by us.
We are a small operation with a relatively light capacity on our trips and a comfortable daily schedule. This means we are always able to deliver the personal service we like, have low guest-to-guide ratios, and take the time required to properly run the best trips. We begin each trip by thoroughly preparing everyone for the river so as to ensure a successful and enjoyable paddling experience for all.
No two of our trips are ever exactly the same. Because the combination of river conditions and group dynamics always differ slightly, we make little adjustments in the way we operate our trips so that each individual gets the best possible experience. Our ability to 'micro-customize' comes from years of experience on these rivers, and is the professional signature that we proudly apply to all of our river trips.
The reality to all this is that quality costs. There is no way around it. We have always been slightly more expensive than our competition, and have often been asked to explain why. We are open about our reasons and proudly rigid in our standards.
